The technical debt wall
“Technical debt” is a metaphor for all software design choices that turn out to be suboptimal, no longer valid, or just plain wrong. They incur a cost of future development. And it’s not just code: artifacts like architecture, documentation, tests, and domain models, can all suffer from technical debt. The only way to “pay off” this debt is by fixing the problems caused by bad choices. Debt allows us to invest in something before it makes money. The technical debt wall is therefore an area in the office where you can visualize all the problems to be resolved and see the action that has been priced: add, reduce, repay or ignore the debt?
